“Hey, Kira.” I forced a bright smile on my face as I came across the young part-time staff member standing behind the counter at the bookstore, looking bored as she read her English college textbook. She barely lifted up her eyes to greet me, which was very typical of her laid back, casual, free spirited attitude. “How have things been this morning? Has it been busy?”

“Nah, no one cares about books now that they all have that new one.” She pointed over toward the horror books. “It’s been quiet. There were a group of silly high school kids in earlier, but they were time wasting and I got rid of them.”

“Ah, right, okay.” I didn’t quite know what she meant about that. I mean, if you couldn’t waste away the hours in a bookstore, then where could you? It was the perfect place to just browse and it was also much better than kids hanging around the park or something like that. “Well... alright. I guess I’m going to get in the back now and see what I need to get done.”

Kira half nodded lazily back at me, so I made my escape. I closed the door behind me, and I breathed deep. I sighed sadly to myself. I was going to seriously have to bury myself in my work today. Anything to forget the thoughts circling through my brain. All of them involved Josh. Me and Josh and the wild night that we shared together at the hotel. Oh God, that was insane.

The night club, that was something on its own. The night club and the dress. The outfit, the makeup, the hair. All of it made me feel like I was a princess, a main character in a movie, which is what made me act as wild as I did. I didn’t feel like myself, and that was what made me act like someone that wasn’t me. I never had one-night stands. Dean was the only person I had ever slept with up until this point, so I couldn’t ever be seen as that sluttier type of person. Josh didn’t make me feel like that either. It might have been raw and passionate, but I could feel the respect coming from him the entire time. Yet deep down, I knew that he was a playboy, that he was a fuck boy himself, so truth be told, he probably didn’t respect me as much as I thought.

“Oh, God.” Finally, I slumped into my office chair and I groaned in agony. “Why did I sleep with him? Why didn’t I just walk into my room? I was right there. I knew that I could just keep going. I stopped where I was and let him kiss me. What the hell?”

I was confused by my own behavior, shocked at myself, and also a little scared. I hadn’t been that vulnerable with another human being in a very long time. I was always so controlled and in charge of myself. But Josh unleashed me.
